Created in the region around the city of Bizen, in Okayama prefecture, Bizen-yaki 備前焼 in Japan is known its simple, pure, and slightly rustic appearance. Bizen is also known as one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns. Having a unique manufacturing method as it does not utilize glaze, the lack of luster gives a simple, rustic appearance.
Throughout Japan's tea ceremony culture, a common purpose is to pursue the natural state of beauty. Thus you will often see teacups and ceramics formed using natural and coarse clay at first. Mixed with different styles of ancient and modern times, you can see the evolution and tradition of these kilns.
