Tokoname 常滑焼 is one of the six oldest kilns in Japan, a city of pottery steeped in history with a history over 1000 years. Tokoname-ware is a form of ceramic pottery that is produced in the area around the city of Tokoname in Aichi prefecture. This traditional craft comes from one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan. Its unique color is caused by the iron which makes the clay turn red after baking.
The entire unit strains the tea and drains the remaining water completely. It is easy to clean when discarding tea leaves and when washing.
Kyusu (急須) are traditional Japanese teapots mainly made of fired volcanic clay of very high quality. The word "Kyusu" simply means teapot, even though in common usage Kyusu usually does refer to a teapot with a side handle.

What a sweet little kyusu. I wanted a small pot to keep by my desk for tea service while working and I am so pleased with the craftsmanship of this pot. It looks better in person than in the listing - the detail is fine and the clay well-burnished and shiny. The spout has a nice clean pour. It's an excellent size for personal tea service with multiple re-steeps over a session. The allover strainer inside is good for quick cleanup. I have smaller hands and this little kyusu has a lovely natural fit in my hand. Beautiful little pot, looking forward to using it every day!
Beautiful and perfect size. Been admiring this for quite some time. Extremely pleased with my purchase. Perfect seller and transaction! Very unique kyusu and extremely fast ship.
I like the way this kyusu combines the classic form with a brocade-like gingko leaf pattern in a contrasting color.
