Traditionally, Natsume is a type of tea utensil with a lacquered lid used to hold matcha (powdered green tea). It is said that the name "natsume" comes from its similarity in shape to the fruit of the plant "jujube" (jujube).
Natsume are typically not airtight and are not meant for long term storage of matcha as they are meant for matcha ceremonial presentation. Typically a portion of matcha is taken out of the tin/bag that it is being stored in, and then sifted into a natsume for matcha ceremonial preparation.
*This lid is not meant to be airtight*
